About our Community Hub

The Hub @ Toothill is now entering an exciting new chapter. Building on years of community vision and determination, we’re transforming the space into a hub that brings people together in fresh and practical ways.

At the heart of this will be The Pub @ the Hub, alongside family-friendly events, flexible rooms for hire, training opportunities (including apprenticeships), and support services shaped directly by local voices.

The restored Toot and Whistle bar will honour our heritage, while new arts, cultural, and creative programmes will showcase local talent and celebrate Toothill’s identity. Together, these strands will create not just a venue, but a catalyst for connection, pride, and opportunity.

As opening approaches, we’re calling on residents, tradespeople, and local businesses to get involved — helping us turn a shared vision into a lasting legacy for Toothill and beyond.

Our Values

At The Hub @ Toothill, our values shape everything we do. We are a community-led space, designed and managed by local people, where your voice helps guide the services and activities on offer. We believe creativity and culture are powerful ways to bring people together, build pride, and strengthen our shared identity. Most importantly, we are committed to inclusion and support —- creating a safe, welcoming place where everyone is respected and feels at home.

Our Leadership

Our board of non-executive directors has voluntarily led governance and development since the beginning, with half of its members living in the Toothill postcode. In August 2025, an Interim CEO was appointed (contracted until March 2026 via Local Trust) to support delivery and the final push to opening.

OUR MISSION

Our Mission

We bring the community together to open and shape a space that reflects local voices. Through arts, culture, learning, and tailored support, we connect people and create a vibrant, inclusive hub for everyone in Toothill and beyond.

Our Vision

We see a neighbourhood where everyone feels welcome, supported, and inspired; where heritage, creativity, and learning build pride and opportunity; and where The Hub @ Toothill thrives as a lasting legacy of community collaboration and resilience.

OUR JOURNEY

October 2018: Incorporation

The Hub @ Toothill was incorporated as a non-profit Community Interest Company, with our mission legally protected to serve the community. The remaining funds from the £1 million Toothill Big Local Project (governed by Local Trust) were allocated to help us bring the Hub to life.

2019 - 2023:
Renovation Works

The project began with strong progress, but contractor momentum slowed. The volunteer team was left devastated when around £167.5 K of construction costs resulted in works either incomplete or not up to specification. This meant further costs were required to meet building control standards, leaving the Hub unable to open to the public.

2024 - Now:
Community Action

Because funding rules prevent grants from covering previously funded construction works, we have turned to the power of community. We are rallying residents, local groups, and businesses to raise £40,000–£50,000 through donations, fundraising events, gifts in kind, and volunteering — all to complete the Hub and open its doors.

Transparency

As we continue developing this website, we plan to share full reports with the public, including financial accounts, survey and building control reports detailing contractor issues, and quarterly updates. Sign up for our newsletter to be notified as soon as these reports become available.
